To get started, click "Create a new portfolio" on the MyStockPortfolio.com home page.
First, enter the Portfolio name. A Portfolio usually works best when it represents a single account at a financial institution.
Next, set the date on which you wish to start entering transactions for the portfolio. Your choices are:
1. Start recording only those transactions since the start of the current year. If you have many years of history you might wish to get started quickly by entering the Beginning Balances of your investments as of the start of the latest year. Later you can enter more historical records if you wish. (Note: With this option some reports, such as those that display the compound annual return of the portfolio or of individual holdings, may not present a true picture of the actual portfolio history.)
2. Record all transactions. For a portfolio that's only a few years old, you may wish to start out by entering all transactions since the portfolio began.
If you selected the first option above, then set the switchover date of the portfolio. The switchover date is the date after which transactions will be entered for this portfolio. Instead of entering in every transaction in your portfolio's history, we provide a shortcut method in which you can simply enter the value of your portfolio, and the details of your security tax lots as of a switchover date. Typically, the switchover date is the last day of the previous tax year prior to the date on which you'll enter the beginning balances of your holdings.
Finally, enter the information about each block (tax lot) owned as of the switchover date.
Now you can access all reports for the portfolio. Going forward, enter all of your transactions to keep the information up to date.
